About Me
Welcome!
Hello there! I'm Matthew, and I am thrilled to welcome you to Porter Portraits, where my wife and I create lasting memories through photography.
My journey in photography began back in my school days at Yuba City High School in California, where I first discovered my passion as the yearbook photographer. Since then, I've pursued my love for photography by taking courses in both photography and business/marketing courses during college.
I have 13 years of experience managing and working in photo labs and 7 years of experience managing and working in camera retail sales. Over the course of my career, I've photographed more than 100 weddings and social events. Upon relocating to Johnson City, I had commercial photography work published with General Shale Brick and The Business Journal of Tri-Cities Tennessee/Virginia, and I covered fundraisers for Casa of Northeast TN and the Crumley House.
Afterwards, I spent 9 years working portrait fundraising events where I photographed around 15,000 families in quick 15-minute sessions. This experience allowed me to hone my portrait photography skills and become a pro at bringing out genuine laughter and smiles, particularly with kids - including those with special needs, a group I find especially rewarding to work with.
Outside of photography, you'll find me enjoying quality time with friends and family, cruising on my motorcycle, or casting out a line to fish.
Give me a call, or shoot me a message, I look forward to meeting and working with you!
